Join the Crowd!
Whether you're a student or an adult mentor, FIRST can make a huge impact on your life. The Berkley High School FIRST Robotics Team is always looking for fresh, energetic minds to become a part of our team. There are three different ways to join the team: as a student, mentor, or team sponsor. Regardless of your interest, you can make a big difference on our team.
Despite being a robotics team, we need members with a variety of interests and specialties. Our team will always have a need for students who can contribute in the areas of marketing, web site creation, animation, image manipulation, digital photography, fund-raising, and robot building.
Students
Typically, students who join the team are attending Berkley High School, but we have opened the team to students who attend schools, such as Hazel Park High School, that do not have a FIRST team. Students need to be in at least the 9th grade prior to joining the team.
In addition to making new friends, having great experiences, and amazing learning opportunities, being a part of a FIRST team gives students access to over 12 million dollars in special FIRST scholarships.
Adult Mentors
Adult mentors participate in FIRST for a variety of reasons. It is a great way to connect with your local community. Being involved in FIRST gives you an opportunity to engage with high school students and parents. Participation in FIRST also gives you a pipeline to inspiration on the highest level. By involving yourself in FIRST, you are adding to the foundation of local communities, helping young adults build problem solving, interpersonal, and communication skills.
Just as with students, not all adult mentors need to have an interest or specialty in engineering. Adult mentors are always needed to help lead areas of fund raising, web creation, and marketing. On the engineering side, our most pressing needs are for computer, electrical, and mechanical engineers.

Sponsors
If you want to get involved, but cannot be present to do so, there's no need to worry. Participation as a team sponsor is one of the most important aspects of keeping our team running. We are always looking for individuals or corporate sponsors to help defray the cost of running our FIRST team. Whether a contribution is large or small it always goes to good use.
Contributions help with the cost of purchasing robot parts, competition travel and registration costs, team shirts, and many other operational expenses. We are always happy to accept donations that can help our team in any way.
